Being Dementia Friendly

Legal clinic round up – June 2018

Every month we hold free legal clinics in Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth.

This month we spoke to people with a wide variety of legal issues which ranged from problems recovering a debt to questions about a residential tenancy, and from advice on sale of a business to reviewing an old will to see if it needed to be updated, and lots more in between.

One of our specialist topics is advising people about lasting powers of attorney and capacity and we frequently speak to people worried about dementia.  We have both received training from the Alzheimer’s Society to become dementia friend champions which means that we often hold dementia friend sessions and work with the Kingsbridge Dementia Friendly Community whose aim is to raise awareness of dementia and support people with dementia in our community (www.kingsbridgedementia.co.uk).

We are aware of difficulties that dementia may present and offer understanding and friendly support to help put in place essential legal documents including lasting powers of attorney, wills and advance directives or apply to be appointed as a deputy.
