Reduction in Court fees for registering a Lasting Power of Attorney

Lasting Power of Attorney Court fees have just been reduced by 25% to encourage people to write one. Do you have Lasting Powers of Attorney in place?

The Alzheimer’s Society predict that by 2021, one million people in the UK will be living with dementia.

Dementia is not a natural part of ageing and it doesn’t just affect older people. Over 40,000 people under 65 in the UK have Dementia.

Lasting Powers of Attorney can be invaluable documents in challenging times when someone loses mental capacity and the capability of managing their own affairs. A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone you trust to manage your affairs for you, if you are not able to.

As of 1 April 2017, the Court fee for registering a Lasting Power of Attorney was reduced by 25%, the previous Court fee was £110 per document but is now £82 per document – meaning if you register both a Property and Financial Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney and a Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney there will be a £56 saving.

This is a significant reduction in the cost of registering a Lasting Power of Attorney, and we hope that this will encourage individuals who do not yet have Lasting Powers of Attorney in place to consider writing one. Why not give yourself and your family peace of mind by writing yours now?
